The State’s holiday playground, Tasmania’s beautiful east coast is less than two hours drive from both Hobart and Launceston.
Renowned for its pristine sandy beaches, breathtaking ocean views, ancient rainforests, fossil-filled cliffs, azure waters, pink granite peaks, and famous national parks, it’s also a gourmet’s delight.
With long sunny days, the region’s 10 vineyards produce some of Tasmania’s best award-winning wines; perfectly matched to the east coast’s superb seafood, olives, walnuts, breads and cheeses.
Vineyards and cellar doors dot the roadside from Orford (near Maria Island), via Swansea to Bicheno in the north. With rolling green hills covered in vines and olive trees, the vista at times is reminiscent of Tuscany.
Take the car, or take an organised tour – either way the journey will not disappoint – it is one of Australia’s most magnificent coastal stretches.
